Project “The Waiting”
Year 2010 was the European year of the fight against poverty and social exclusion and the year of the 60th anniversary of the Schuman declaration the vision of the former French foreign minister of future European integration. Even though today the European Union is one of the wealthiest regions globally, many citizens still face a lack of sufficient resources for survival and consequently social exclusion. Poverty and exclusion are harmful for the entire society and it is important to recognize that every individual matters in achieving the common good. The motive of this installation warns against global uniformity exclusion and stigmatism of those, who find themselves outside the social framework. It welcomes spectators to the essence of arts by revealing what our eyes cannot see.
There are 70 figures: 30 men, 30 women and 10 children standing in line, naked, without any privileges waiting for the better future.
Students of 4th year of Academy of Arts and Design in Ljubljana (under the mentorship of Alen Ožbolt) who worked on this project »The Waiting« are: Katja Bogataj, Polona Černe, Pavel Ekrias, Neža Jurman, Ana Kerin, Miha Makovec, Barbara Pintar and Lan Seušek.
